A few pals and I watched the Gary Busey masterpiece Eye of the Tiger (1986) last night, the titular song of which got us onto the topic of Sylvester Stallone. Watching a few choice scenes from the amazing Cobra (1986) – probably my favourite Stallone flick – fellow Mondo Exploito scribe, Matthew C. Vaughan, and I came to the horrifying realisation that we had yet to feature the incredible montage that introduces Brigitte Nielsen’s character. The montage confusingly cuts between Stallone searching out clues, and Nielsen prancing around silly looking robots in what would have to be the most 80s fashion shoot ever conceived. The first psychedelic flashes of robots cut in with no context, and on my first viewing of the film, I thought I was hallucinating. Stallone is perhaps the king of montages, and this I rate as my favourite.
