I’ve been on a big Vincent Price kick of late; rewatching old favourites and checking out classics I’d somehow managed to miss. Dr. Phibes Rises Again (1972) falls into the latter category. I’m not entirely sure why, but I’d gotten it in my head that it was a crappy sequel and not worth a watch. If you have been of the same opinion, I highly recommend pushing aside any preconceptions and checking it out. Dr. Phibes Rises Again is not quite The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971), but it is a hell of a lot of fun. Like its predecessor, it’s fairly light in tone and heavy on humour. There is, however, one scene I found pretty distressing, and I don’t even have a particularly strong fear of scorpions…
