Last night, I re-watched one of my favourite comedies of all time – Rubin and Ed (1991). Sadly, this little seen film, directed by Trent Harris and starring Crispin Glover and Howard Hesseman, has never received the kudos it deserves. In fact, an interview Glover gave on Letterman, in character as Rubin, has probably been viewed far more time than the actual movie. (By the way, check out the followup interview, it’s just as good.) Rubin and Ed is pure genius from its brilliant pairing of Glover and Hesseman to its insane plot that revolves around the burial of Rubin’s dead cat. Here’s its most famous scene, surely one of the best dream sequences put to film:
