I’ll watch anything by Story of Ricky director Ngai Choi Lam, because it seems everything (almost everything) he made is quite brilliant. Killer’s Nocturne (1987), however, was not a film in his oeuvre that excited me. A mahjong themed period drama just didn’t sound up my alley. But – and really, it should have come as no surprise – Killer’s Nocturne turned out to be obscenely entertaining, despite my complete ignorance of the rules of mahjong. In this week’s clip, we follow Killer’s Nocturne‘s hero (Chin Siu-hou) downward spiral into the seedy world of underground fighting. He gets the shit beaten out of him, losing fights for cash. The pain is tolerable, until a kangaroo is introduced as a contender. Yes, a giant fucking kangaroo.
