The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe – Czech poster
Truth be told, every poster I have seen for Yves Robert's The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe has been a thing of beauty. It is one of those films that seemed blessed with design greatness.
Grave of the Vampire – US poster
There's not much to say about this really. Just look at it. Ridiculous!
Contamination – US VHS cover
I am quite a fan of Luigi Cozzi's wonderful gem, Contamination. It's a solid film worthy of one's time. It's hard to imagine the audience the below cover is appealing to however.
Body Shop – US VHS cover
Take this glorious cover for Body Shop. It's not quite right, is it? The face is out of proportion. Those fingers aren't quite long enough. So why does it look so good?
Ozone: The Attack of the Redneck Mutants – US VHS cover
When you call your film Ozone: The Attack of the Redneck Mutants, you do so with the understanding you are engaging in a certainly level of deliberate b-grade dreck. It stands to reason that when developing imagery to advertise such a film, that imagery will also waltz toward a similar level of b-grade dreck-ed-ness.
The General – Russian poster
It dawns on me that in the years I have been sharing posters on Mondo Exploito, I have never given attention to the silent film era, which is a shame because there are some gorgeous examples of design from the 20s to appreciate.
A Fistful of Dollars – German poster
Not an obscure film by any means, but I suspect this German poster for Sergio Leone's classic A Fistful of Dollars has been seen by few and hence, worth featuring on Mondo. And what a gorgeous, almost painfully stylish poster it is too.
Teenage Milkmaid – US poster
Will you get a load of that tagline! It really seems like quite a stretch to me... Project a vaguely erotic notion on the concept of milkmaids and then see how far such a spurious notion can be pushed.
Roller Blade Warriors: Taken By Force – US VHS cover
Well this VHS cover is just a lot of quintessentially 80s fun, isn't it? I want to give an extra nod to the cover designer for opting toward a borderline illegible font.
Looker – Hungarian poster
I could not be more enamoured with this Hungarian poster for Michael Crichton's Looker if I tried. It ticks pretty much every box my design wang needs in order to stiffen, and it has done so considerably.
Doctor Butcher MD (Medical Deviant) aka Zombie Holocaust – US poster
When I stumbled upon this poster, I wondered if perhaps if it was some brilliantly designed ruse for a film that never existed. It seemed too perfectly bizarre.
