The Rape of the Vampire – French poster
I love the poster designs of Jean Rollin's early films. This poster for Rollin's debut isn't quite up there with the poster art for Fascination and The Shiver of the Vampires, but its mixture of amateur artistry and lurid imagery appeals to me.
Le masque de la Méduse (2010)
This is not a film that will win Rollin any new fans. With many references, some of them very blunt, to past work, this is certainly not the Rollin film to begin with, but it is the perfect one to end with.
A Virgin Among the Living Dead – French poster
A Virgin Among the Living Dead being a rather sombre film, this lurid poster isn't exactly the best representation of its content. But who cares?! It's amazing!
Trepanator (1992)
With little to no anticipation or expectations, I press play and Trepanator begins. The opening titles shakily appear on the screen. Underneath “starring” I see “Jean Rollin”. I scoff. What a cheap way to sucker someone into buying your film – you know, by pretending that Jean Rollin is in it. Then another name catches...
Kiss of the Damned – US poster
Perusing one of my favourite blogs, Fascination: The Jean Rollin Experience, and salivating at news of upcoming Jean Rollin blu-ray releases, I came across the trailer and poster for a film titled Kiss of the Damned. At first glance, I assumed the poster was for a Rollin film, perhaps under a different title, but then,...
Zombie Lake (1981)
I love Jean Rollin, and it is for that reason I’ve avoided Zombie Lake for so many years. To say Zombie Lake has a bad reputation is putting it lightly. There are many films that are labelled “worst film ever”, but there are few that receive that descriptor as often as Zombie Lake. Just look...
Phantasmes (1977)
I worship Jean Rollin (click here for Mondo Exploito’s Rollin Starter Pack). The man was a truly unique filmmaker; brilliant, obsessed with certain themes and often maligned and misunderstood. I’ve seen practically everything he made in his long and accomplished career and can’t name a single film by him I haven’t appreciated on some level....
Lips of Blood – French posters
I’m a Jean Rollin fanboy – my Rollin Starter Pack can be found here – and my favourite of his work is Lips of Blood (1975). I’m very lucky that Lips of Blood has not one but two fantastic posters from its native France. Too bad I’ll never get my greedy hands on these –...
Jean Rollin
Jean Rollin passed away in late 2010 leaving us his final unfinished work, Le masque de la Méduse. A filmmaker as maligned as he was loved, Rollin – no matter where your opinion of him sways – was an extremely important figure in Euro horror. Often he has been unfairly lumped in with the prolific...
