Trapped in Lust (1973)
Trapped in Lust is exactly the sort of pink film that got me interested in the genre in the first place. From its super cool poppy soundtrack that always kicks in at the right moment to its swaggering leading man, this is a film dripping in style.
Woods Are Wet: Woman Hell (1973)
I've seen far more repulsive Roman Pornos, but there's something exceptionally unnerving about Woods Are Wet. Kumashiro mixes sex, death and sadism into the bleakest of tales. This is one Roman Porno I won't be forgetting in a hurry.
Best worst line reading ever
I don't think I've ever pressed rewind so many times, and all to hear a mangled line of dialogue over and over again. I'd imagine the Japanese director of Gappa had no clue how horrifically this poor gaijin actor, clearly not a native speaker, was delivering his line.
The Gappa Family (ガッパ)
It's a shame Nikkatsu only made this single kaijū film. Gappa, while no masterpiece, has a lot more energy and passion than some of the Godzilla and Gamera efforts that appeared towards the end of the Shōwa era.
Rape! (1976)
For a film with a title made up of "rape" and an exclamation mark, Rape! is surprisingly well made and not nearly as exploitative as you'd expect.
Hell in a Bottle – Japanese poster
It's rare that I'll post a poster for a film I've not seen, but perusing Wrong Side of the Art I stumbled across this nightmarish piece for a Japanese pinku from Nikkatsu, Hell in a Bottle, and felt it needed to be shared. Bloody hell!
