The clip of the week this week comes from director Fred Olen Ray’s Cyclone (1987). Even the most half-arsed trash movie aficionado will know of Olen Ray from his many, many films such as Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988), Alienator (1990) or the eighteen movies of his featuring the word ‘bikini’ in the title. Hell, if you’ve ever stayed up past midnight watching television as a kid to see some T&A or just because you’re too depressed to sleep, you’ve probably seen a Fred Olen Ray film.
Anyway, the movie I am showing you a clip from today, Cyclone, stars TV’s Heather Thomas as a tough lady who loves her inventor boyfriend (played by Jeffrey Combs) almost as much as she loves to wear her jeans pulled up really high. Thomas’s character inherits a super-powered battle motorcycle, invented by her boyfriend, that a lot of somewhat tough guys want to get their hands on because it contains some kind of magic infinite power source or something. Sorry I think I just bored myself recounting the plot. It features lots of scenes of unremarkable people standing around in unremarkable looking garages and offices talking about who-cares-what, but is worth watching for the surprisingly good car stunts and occasional moments of madness. This week’s clip illustrates how quickly and unceremoniously the main villain from Cyclone is dispatched in one such moment of madness. Thanks, Cyclone and thanks, Fred.
