It’s very rare that I come across a Kickstarter project that I feel is worth putting my money towards. But this is a truly great one. Most exploitation movie fans know the films of Herschell Gordon Lewis like the back of their hand. However, quite a few of his films have been lost and essentially considered forever lost. The most exciting of these lost works is Black Love – an erotic blaxploitation! Amazingly, Process Blue – “a film restoration facility operated by movie enthusiasts who are dedicated to preserving forgotten works of cinema” – have managed to uncover not one but three of Lewis’s lost films, including Black Love! Here’s what they have to say:

Through a combination of luck, happenstance and a lot of negotiating, we’ve acquired the negatives for acclaimed cult filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis’ three lost sexploitation pictures, LINDA & ABILENE (1969), ECSTASIES OF WOMEN (1969) and BLACK LOVE (1971) and are seeking funds to properly restore and preserve them and, ultimately, allow the public to appreciate them for decades to come.

Awesome! Even better, the initiatives Process Blue has put forward to pledgers are fantastic. Personally, I’ll be going to the $50 option, which gets me a blu-ray of the films, a t-shirt and a button set. Now that is good value! Their goal is a measly $10,000, which I’m guessing is purely covering costs and not aiming for a profit. If you’re a fan of Herschell, please donate to this great project!
