RAPED BY AN ANGEL
Hong Kong, 1993, Wai-Keung Lau

Wow. Raped by an Angel is not a parody of the television show with a similar title about irritatingly smug angels who teach wayward people a lesson about god and stuff. Raped by an Angel is a movie with no lessons to be learned. The one thing it has in common with said television show of a similar title is that both will almost definitely make you stupider.

RBAA follows inept law student and budding actress, Yau Yuk Nam, as she is occasionally terrorised by serial rapist, Chuck. After seeing her in a TV commercial, Chuck sets his sights on our protagonist and then proceeds to rape her roommate for some reason. Apparently Chuck is a master manipulator. After being arrested he manages to win his court case against Yau’s roommate and continues with his roundabout terrorising of Yau Yuk Nam. Along the way our heroine hooks up with a bumbling triad boss with a heart of gold, played by Simon Yam, and eventually the two plot revenge against Chuck. Oh yeah and there’s some side plot about an old friend of theirs with AIDs, the payoff of which is particularly amazing.

RBAA feels like it was written by a teenage boy who just learned about rape and AIDs and thinks the two are very funny. In that respect, it makes it hard not to watch as stupidity piles upon stupidity, making for an insane clusterfuck of stupidity that you could only find in Hong Kong Category III cinema (or maybe Italian cinema in the 70s and 80s).  Apparently it is a sequel to the popular actioner, Naked Killer but really, apart from sharing a couple of the same actors, it bares little to no similarity. It is hard to write about this movie without mentioning particular scenes of foolishness, including the outrageous finale, but I would be doing the lovers of this kind of film (eg. the kinds of people who come to a site like this) a disservice by spoiling any of the “twists” or moments of mind-bending idiocy. So if you haven’t seen it and want to watch something as moronic as it is offensive, download a copy and for lack of a better word, enjoy.
